THE BACK STORY:

Africa holds a special place in our hearts.

For both of us, it was a place where we were both quietly reborn. In our work there separately, we found a sense of purpose and calling that would change the course of our lives.

Because of that, Africa has never felt abstract or far away. It tugs quietly at our hearts.

And while the challenges facing the continent are vast and complex, life has brought us back again and again to Africa to try to play a small part.

Why We’re Doing This

Over the years, our travels, the people we’ve met, the books we’ve read, and the experiences we’ve had have all shaped our belief that generosity is one of the most powerful forces on earth. It frees us, and others.

In fact, our shared belief in the power of giving was one of the ways we knew we had found the one.

When we got engaged last fall, we knew we wanted generosity to be big part of our lives and we started thinking about what we could do together.

Our first Christmas together.

I (Anita) had been keeping small “giving fund.” I set aside money every month and then gave it away in whatever way felt joyful and generous. My rule was that the fund had to be emptied every month. I discovered so much joy in finding new creative ways to bless and delight others.

I (Tim) had been giving freely for years to the water charity I started and supporting many other humanitarian projects. I had already sponsored children for years and always enjoying being generous.

But giving at the end of the year is different.

For me (Anita), it’s a sacred time to reflect and take inventory of God’s faithfulness in the past 12 months: where I began, where I have come, what I have received, where God has provided for me, surprised me, grown me and what I have been entrusted to steward.  I used to do these reflections on my own in quiet evenings in Deecember.

Now that we are married, we get to do this together!

Last Christmas: A First Experiment

Last Christmas, our first as an engaged couple, we tried something simple.

I (Tim) have a good friend in Uganda, Deo, and we’ve worked together building many clean water projects. I messaged him on Whatsapp and asked, "Anita and I have an amount we want to give. Do you think you could us help us get food and distribute to families in need?"

Yes, he could!

So we sent him $500, and he purchased food locally and delivered it to families in three villages, mostly elderly people and mothers.

He sent us pictures of the families in Uganda and oh, it brought us so much joy to see their joy!

To think that from what we have been given in Canada, we were able to touch the lives half a world away.

Last year, our gift helped 48 families.

This Year: An Invitation

This year, we’re doing it again, a little bigger, and inviting you to be part of it with us.

Our Goal:

$5000

Each Food Basket Costs:

$25 to feed a family for one week

We’ll feed:

200 families in Uganda

How Our Gifts Help

Nearly one in three households in Uganda experience severe food insecurity, where food access is limited and many may skip meals or not eat at all for an entire day due to lack of resources.

Our Uganda team, Deo and Zac, will ensure food reaches those most in need, prioritizing elderly individuals, single mothers, and vulnerable households.

This year’s food pack will include enough food to supply a family for a week: 5 kg of corn flour, 1 kg of rice, 1 kg bean, salt, sugar, cooking oil and a bar of soap.

Our Dream For All

Our dream is for this Christmas Project to grow into something that will touch more lives with each passing year. For now, though, we are starting the same way began, by asking, “what can we do this year?”

If you feel moved to participate — whether in a small way or a significant one — we invite you to join us in this celebration of life and gratitude.

Gifts can be made through December 31, 2025.

Food distribution will take place early in the new year and we will share the photos and videos from Deo and Zac with you as soon as we receive them!

Thank you for joining us in this simple, meaningful gift.

And thank you for being a special part of our lives!

2025 has held more than we ever thought it would and we are so grateful to all of you who have shared your love and kindness with us.

We wish a Christmas filled with family, friendship and light, and a restful, joyful start to the New Year!

With Love,

Anita & Tim
